At the Opening Ceremonies of the American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery in Boston, on September 26, 2010, Dr. Brent Richardson was conferred the Honor Award, and Dr. Robert Bastian, the Distinguished Service Award. These awards are earned in part based upon “points” earned for instructional courses taught, committee service, participation in panel discussions, and papers presented. Both physicians have served or are serving on the Voice Committee of the Academy. Both teach courses on such subjects as the diagnostic model for voice disorders, vocal fold microsurgery, neurogenic cough, office-based surgery on the larynx and pharynx, and the videoendoscopic swallowing study.
